2018 Rewards
There has definitely been a buzz in the air about this new year new me in 2018. I think this is something I need to address on my own accord and how I feel about it.
So I will begin by saying people make changes the way they see fit in their lives, what makes the new year any different? What makes the new year a starting point? As I see it, people tend to think oh the holidays are here, it is time to let go and enjoy myself. It is time for me to let myself do what I want, eat what I want and then the first of the year, I start back up. Why though? Why do we allow ourselves to get off the routine we stick to for the year? We work so hard to follow a plan throughout the year, but when the holidays come we put that same lifestyle back on the back burner. Is there a definite reason we do this or is it just so hard with the holiday sweet to keep a lifestyle?
I think for the most part, people still keep to their good habits food wise, we let ourselves indulge. We allow ourselves to reward our year of hard work with endless holiday treats, that is absolutely fine. Give yourself the options to make these decisions, but remember that you will have to return to this active healthy lifestyle after. I think just the though of having to return to the same lifestyle after the holidays should be enough to warrant caution. For me it is enough for me to allow myself small samples of treats, but quickly go back to my routine of eating the healthy foods I eat year round.
I think the hardest part for people is sticking to the routine and discipline they are used to. They think well I will just work extra hard in January. Well... January is here, and you dont see me working harder than I usually do. The reason, you're not going to get fat from rewarding yourself with little things. You will get fat if you continue to reward yourself every day. So the battle I am facing now is the "reward" yourself venture. I am trying to cut my sugar addiction to match my old habits. Which is very little sugar. The sugar cycle is hard to break, so my suggestion to people is to make sure you remember what it was like to kick the sugar initially. It is hard!!!! Do you want to do that again? I sure as heck dont, so I limited the sugar.
Finally, were all human. Although it is said many times to you in many different capacities, remember that with time you can change your body and mindset. You can have a shitty week or month so breathe and be human. Embrace the fact that you are allowed to make decisions, embrace the fact that you have the will to enjoy yourself and change if you desire to.
